OpenClaw installs the plugin and asks you for the key, number, and public URL.
>Connect yourself to WhatsApp with Kapso. Follow the steps at kapso.com/whatsapp-openclaw and ask me before creating any keys.
Needs OpenClaw 2026.5.27 or later and a Kapso number.
From ClawHub. It bundles the Kapso CLI.
openclaw plugins install clawhub:@kapso/openclaw-whatsapp
With KAPSO_API_KEY exported. Your gateway needs a public HTTPS URL.
openclaw kapso-whatsapp setup \ --api-key "$KAPSO_API_KEY" --phone-number-id <id> \ --webhook-url https://<public-host>/kapso/webhook \ --webhook-secret "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" \ --allow-from "+15551234567" \ --register-webhook --write-config
Then send your agent a message on WhatsApp.
openclaw gateway restart openclaw kapso-whatsapp doctor
npm install -g @kapso/cliOpenClaw can read this page and connect itself. Or copy the instructions and paste them into any agent with shell access to the OpenClaw machine.
You are reading https://kapso.com/whatsapp-openclaw. Kapso is the WhatsApp API for developers. Its OpenClaw plugin, @kapso/openclaw-whatsapp, adds WhatsApp as an OpenClaw channel through the official WhatsApp API: direct messages with text, images, documents, and voice notes. Follow these steps to connect it.
Check what the user has.
OpenClaw must be 2026.5.27 or later with the gateway running. The user needs a Kapso project API key and a WhatsApp number connected in Kapso. Never create keys, sign up, or connect numbers on their behalf.
Install the plugin. Run:
openclaw plugins install clawhub:@kapso/openclaw-whatsapp
Do not overwrite plugins.allow. The install adds kapso-whatsapp to it when an allowlist exists; replacing the list disables the user’s other plugins.
Get a public HTTPS URL.
Kapso must reach the gateway at https://<public-host>/kapso/webhook. If Tailscale Funnel is running, read the URL from tailscale funnel status --json. Otherwise ask the user for one.
Run setup. Run:
openclaw kapso-whatsapp setup --api-key "$KAPSO_API_KEY" --phone-number-id <id> \ --webhook-url https://<public-host>/kapso/webhook \ --webhook-secret "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" --allow-from <user number> \ --register-webhook --write-config
Always set --allow-from to the user’s own number: with an empty allowlist the plugin admits every sender. Ask the user to set KAPSO_API_KEY themselves rather than pasting it into chat.
Restart and verify.
Run openclaw gateway restart, then openclaw kapso-whatsapp doctor and openclaw channels status --channel kapso-whatsapp --probe. If either fails, stop and tell the user what it printed.
Report back.
Tell the user which number OpenClaw answers on and ask them to send it a message.
