Kapso raises $1.4M

I’m happy to announce that Kapso has raised $1.4 million.

This round feels like a good moment to pause, look back, and tell you what’s coming next.

How we got here

Today, Kapso is growing fast.

But it wasn’t always like this.

Twelve months ago, it wasn’t clear at all if Kapso was going to be a useful product.

I spent months working 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, for just a handful of early users.

Revenue was literally $0 for like 6 months.

Still, usage was growing…

The base was very small, and the absolute numbers were miserable… but the weekly growth was definitely there.

So even though revenue was not great, I decided to change nothing.

I decided to trust the exponential.

A year later, that bet is paying off.

We now process more messages in one hour than we did in the entire month of August last year.

For more than 28,000 developers.

Why WhatsApp

WhatsApp is the biggest messaging platform in the world.

People already know how to use it.

It doesn’t matter if you are 18 and grew up online, or 70 and didn’t. You use WhatsApp every day.

And because that’s where people chat with everyone they know, it’s also where they want to chat with businesses.

People barely check email anymore, and phone calls and SMS increasingly feel like spam. WhatsApp is one of the few high-quality communication channels left.

This matters even more with AI.

AI is conversational by default.

And for a large part of the world, WhatsApp is already the default conversational interface.

As AI becomes part of everyday life, people will want to interact with it using the interfaces they already know.

Today, that means opening an app and typing a prompt. But soon, agents will reach out to us — to keep working, to unblock tasks, to show us results. And WhatsApp is where they will actually find us.

Even though it is the obvious channel, building on it has traditionally been painful.

WhatsApp is great for users, but terrible for developers.

Kapso is fixing this.

The round

I’m very lucky to have many great investors joining the round:

  • Norte
  • Latitud
  • Newtopia
  • Platanus
  • Hypersphere
  • Semilla
  • Chile Ventures
  • Matías Woloski, co-founder of Auth0
  • Juan Pablo Cuevas, co-founder of Cornershop

And more than 10 other amazing founders and angels.

What I like most about this group is that they really understand why Kapso exists.

Many of them had experienced the pain of integrating WhatsApp themselves, or watched their portfolio companies struggle with the existing options. Then they tried Kapso and saw the difference.

They became customers before they became our investors.

They also understand how critical WhatsApp already is across the world. In India, Brazil, Latin America, Indonesia, Africa, and most of Europe, WhatsApp is a central part of everyday life.

The US used to be the exception, but now it is becoming a WhatsApp country too.

What’s coming

A few weeks ago, Kapso became a Meta Solutions Partner, the highest partner tier in the WhatsApp ecosystem.

This allowed us to build Kapso Managed Billing, which handles all the billing complexity with Meta so you and your customers never have to think about it.

And over the coming days, we’re launching new features to make building on WhatsApp even easier.

But we won’t stop there.

Kapso is in the communications infrastructure business, and as agents become economic actors, there is a whole new layer of infrastructure to build.

Stay tuned.
